Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza announced the need for the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine along with other drugs. The only condition for the use of a vaccine, in his opinion, should be efficacy and safety. His words, said on the air of the Rai 3 TV channel, are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“We shouldn't be prejudiced because it doesn't make sense. If the European Medicines Agency (EMA) says that the vaccine is safe, it will suit me, whether it is an American, European or Russian vaccine, ”the head of the department emphasized.
Earlier it was reported that “Sputnik V” will be tested together with the Italian drug ReiThera. Professor Francesco Vaya, director of the Italian National Institute of Infectious Diseases Lazzaro Spallanzani, said that a group of Russian scientists will arrive in Italy shortly after the signing of the relevant agreement, and the first results of their joint work may be published in April.
Sputnik V is the first registered Russian coronavirus vaccine based on adenovirus. The drug is registered in more than 50 countries. Currently, the development of Russian scientists is among the ten best vaccine candidates in the list of the World Health Organization.
