In Israel, food will be delivered using drones
An experiment on the delivery of food and medicine using drones has started in central Israel. The authorities have decided to expand the testing of the pilot program, during which hundreds of test flights over residential areas will be organized over two weeks, Haaretz reported.
Drone delivery trials began in March in the city of Hadera. And starting this week, the program has expanded to the outskirts of Tel Aviv, Herzliya and Ramat Hasharon. Within the framework of testing, the delivery of essential items is carried out: food, medicines. At the same time, drones will not bring goods directly home – the customer will need to pick them up in a specially designated landing zone.
During the tests in Israel, about 6.3 thousand flights were performed. In 2020, drones have been used to dump drugs and tests for COVID-19, mostly to medical centers.
In the coming weeks, it is planned to organize about three thousand flights, about a hundred daily. Flights will only take place in clear weather.
As a reminder, in April 2019, a private company in the United States was granted the first permission for drone delivery. And in April 2020, in the Tver region, they began to use drones to help health workers in the fight against coronavirus.
