The helicopter transported 14 soldiers and family members. Some charred bodies were found at the scene of the accident. Three injured passengers were rescued.
The helicopter was on its way to the headquarters college. On board the helicopter were members of the family of General Rawat himself.
The Indian Air Force confirmed the tragedy and announced the start of an investigation into its causes. Victim identification continues.
