In Hong Kong under the new Chinese law on national security detained media tycoon Jimmy Lai (Li Jin), who is considered one of the organizers of the protests against the influence of mainland China. This was reported by the South China Morning Post.

The national security law of Hong Kong was passed by the Chinese Parliament on 30 June. It gives the right to the Chinese authorities to stop the actions that will be perceived as a threat to national security, particularly to prevent protests and to prosecute their leaders.
Hong Kong returned to China from the lease by agreement between him and Britain in 1997. According to the joint Declaration of China and Britain, the city was promised broad autonomy for 50 years.
