The Prime Minister of the federal state of Bavaria (Germany) Markus Seder said that due to mutations of the coronavirus, in fact, a new pandemic is emerging. He is quoted by RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland.
“The number of infected people is growing, it is growing every day. There is no way to ignore this, you need to face the facts: we have a third wave, which is much more dangerous than the first and second waves of coronavirus … Many have already underestimated the current situation. We must not let impatience become our weakness, ”the politician stressed.
Zeder noted that many also underestimate the spread of coronavirus mutations, although they can be even more dangerous. In his opinion, the situation with the spread of infection in the country is already very serious and will become even more serious.
The politician also commented on Berlin's decision to extend the quarantine until April 18. Head of Bavaria said it was a good and necessary step, and called epidemiological measures “Easter quarantine” (Catholics celebrate Easter from 1 to 5 April – note “Lenta.ru.”).
More than 2.6 million people have been infected in Germany in the year since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. More than 75 thousand cases have died.
