Ukraine demanded from Germany such types of weapons that, due to the Bundeswehr budget, even the German army itself does not have. Welt writes about this.
The publication recalled the numerous requests of the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany for the provision of lethal weapons and modern weapons systems, such as air defense systems and German ships. According to the media, such desires are devoid of realism, because the Bundeswehr itself does not have such a technique.
“There have been discussions about this for a long time. There is a constant lack of money. Ukraine may also need ammunition, but this is not considered, since the warehouses of the Bundeswehr are empty,” the newspaper writes. Welt noted the statements of the Inspector General of the German army, Eberhard Zorn. Earlier, he said that an additional 20 billion euros of the military budget is needed to replenish ammunition.
The same situation is developing with the supply of military equipment. On January 26, it became known about the decision of the German leadership on the supply of helmets for Ukrainian troops. As it turned out, the Bundeswehr itself needs large batches of protective equipment, so Germany supplied only 5 thousand.
On January 19, a representative of the German Defense Ministry repeatedly refused to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine after statements by the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany Andrei Melnik addressed to Berlin.
