As of September 2023, there were 205,970 thousand unemployed Ukrainians in Germany.
German Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil proposes to significantly make it easier for refugees from Ukraine to enter the labor market – he believes that employers should hire Ukrainians who have not yet mastered the German language at the proper level, but have basic knowledge of it.
He said this in an interview with the newspaper Welt am Sonntag.
The minister emphasized that learning the German language takes place not only in courses, but also directly during work.
Heil strives to quickly employ refugees from Ukraine, which, according to him, requires “the willingness of employers to hire these people, even if they have only basic knowledge of the German language.”
The German minister intends to discuss this issue with representatives of the German economy on Monday, November 20.
At the same time, Heil noted that in Germany, 100 thousand Ukrainians have already completed integration language courses and the same number will do so in the near future. The same goes for another 200 thousand people from other countries of origin who can work.
According to government data, in July there were about 196,600 employed Ukrainian citizens in Germany, of whom 154,600 worked while paying social security contributions and 42,000 were employed in low-paid or part-time jobs.
