The West, which Russia for a long time could not surprise in technical terms, appreciated the creation of the world's first vaccine against coronavirus Sputnik V, wrote journalist Jacques Schuster in an article for the Welt publication. According to him, the drug has already proven its effectiveness.
Schuster stressed that the last time European countries and the United States were in awe after the USSR in 1957 launched the world's first artificial Earth satellite into space. Since then, surprising the West with Russian technical developments has been quite difficult. When Moscow announced the launch of the serial production of the first vaccine against coronavirus, Western politicians were forced to admit that Russia is “not Upper Volta (an African third world country – ed.) With missiles,” the publicist emphasized.
The high efficiency of Sputnik V, according to him, has already been proven. This was noted in the authoritative scientific journal Lancet. We are talking about the intermediate results of the third phase of clinical trials of the Russian vaccine.
In a study based on an analysis of data from nearly 20,000 trial participants, three quarters of whom received the vaccine and one quarter received a placebo, it was noted that the effectiveness of vaccination against COVID-19 was 91.6%. That is why, Shuster believes, the decision of the Russian leadership to use the drug as part of a mass vaccination without disclosing information about it is absolutely justified.
Europe agreed to use Sputnik V on a transparent basis
Earlier, as Rambler reported, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine could be used in EU countries if all documents related to the drug were made public. Russian manufacturers, she said, should open access to their reports and demonstrate complete transparency. Only in this case will they receive permission to enter the European market, along with other vaccine manufacturers.
