In Germany, police and customs officers seized a record amount of cocaine in a year – 35 tons.

Drugs mainly enter the country through shipping containers from South America. So, last year about 20 tons were intercepted, and in 2021 – 23 tons.
“Since 2017, the amount of cocaine seized has increased significantly. In 2018, authorities seized only five tons,” the report said. This means that in five years the number has increased sevenfold.
Criminals often transport contraband in containers of bananas and coffee between steel crates. So, in the spring, 920 kg of the drug was found in a container with coffee in Hamburg.
Smugglers also use divers: sports bags with drugs are thrown overboard, where they are taken by accomplices.
