According to the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the third wave of the pandemic began in the country.
“We cannot close our eyes to the fact that we are dealing with a third wave,” Merkel said.
In addition, according to her, great concern is inspired by the fact that the so-called South African strain of the coronavirus may begin to spread in Germany, against which existing vaccines may be ineffective.
According to statistics provided by the country's Ministry of Health, to date, more than 2.4 million cases of coronavirus infection have been registered in Germany, and more than 69 thousand people have already become victims of the disease.
In terms of the number of vaccinations made, Germany is in 9th place in the world – about 3.4 million people received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, 1.8 million citizens were fully vaccinated. The proportion of the population covered by vaccinations to date is 4.07%.
