Opponents of strict quarantine in Germany went to a protest in Frankfurt am Main, in connection with which the police were forced to use special means to disperse them. Deutsche Welle reports.
During the demonstration, the protesters attacked law enforcement officers. In addition, they neglected measures to prevent the spread of the virus: they did not observe social distance and did not wear protective masks. The police demanded to end the action and urged people to disperse, threatening to use water cannons in case of disobedience. However, the activists did not obey the demands. “I had to use a water cannon to clear the area,” explained the guards. They also used batons.
On October 2, German Chancellor Angela Merkel introduced a strict quarantine against the backdrop of an increase in cases of coronavirus infection. In particular, restaurants, bars, cinemas, entertainment venues, fitness clubs, swimming pools were closed, and the work of shops was also limited. Hotels during quarantine are prohibited from accepting tourists, with the exception of citizens on a business trip. Residents of the country cannot gather in companies of more than ten people in public places.
The quarantine in the country will last at least until the end of autumn. These measures are necessary to avoid the collapse of the German health care system, Merkel said.
Germany is in 13th place in terms of the number of people infected with coronavirus. In the country for the entire time of the pandemic, more than 788 thousand cases of infection were detected, of which 12.4 thousand citizens died. In the world, the total number of COVID-19 cases is 53.7 million, 1.3 million have died, 34.5 million have recovered.
