On Friday, May 31, in the southwestern German city of Mannheim country, an unknown man with a knife attacked far-right social activist Michael Stürzenberger, known for his criticism of Islam.
This incident was reported by Tagesspiegel.
The attack occurred during an anti-Islamic meeting on the market square of a German city and was broadcast online.
The video of this incident quickly spread on social networks. In the published footage, you can see how the attacker aggressively stabbed people several times, including a policeman, at the Pax Europe Civil Movement stand.
The video then shows a police officer shooting at the attacker, after which several police officers pin the man to the ground.
A man was reportedly injured in the attack the organizer of the event, anti-Islamic activist Michael Stürzenberger, as well as several of his assistants and a police officer. The policeman was seriously stabbed and was taken to the hospital, where he was immediately operated on.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called the attack an attempted murder.
“The footage from Mannheim is terrible. Several people were seriously injured by the attacker. My thoughts are with the victims,” he wrote on the social network X, adding that violence is absolutely unacceptable in a democracy and the perpetrator must be severely punished.
The victim of the attack, Michael Stürzenberger, calls himself a journalist, he is critical of Islam, and was a member of several far-right anti-Islamic organizations, including the PEGIDA movement, which regularly organizes marches in cities, particularly in eastern Germany.
Recall that earlier in Dortmund, Germany, unknown persons attacked a 15-year-old teenager from Ukraine, who was walking in the evening with two friends. He was injured and was hospitalized.
