The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection in Germany has reached 200 thousand over the past day, this is a new anti-record for the entire time of the pandemic. This was announced by the Robert Koch Institute of Virology, a subordinate unit of the German Ministry of Health.

The previous maximum in the number of infections was recorded a day earlier — 164 thousand cases for January 25. On January 26, a new anti-record was revealed — 203 thousand people passed positive tests for COVID-19. During the week, the hospitalization rate has seriously increased, now it is 4.26 residents per 100 thousand people.

The increase in morbidity rates is associated with the widespread spread of the omicron strain, in January it became dominant in Germany. To counteract the pandemic, the German authorities have introduced restrictive measures, which mainly concern unvaccinated citizens who cannot visit places of public catering and leisure. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz intends to achieve the adoption of a law on mandatory vaccination to increase the level of collective immunity of German citizens.

On January 25, the French Ministry of Health recorded an anti-record for the incidence of COVID-19. More than 500 thousand people were infected in the country per day. For the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in France, 501.6 thousand new cases of infection were detected in 24 hours. Before that, the highest daily increase in cases was 464 thousand.

On January 24, the head of the World Health Organization said that humanity will be forced to exist with the coronavirus in the foreseeable future, so the world needs careful control over the spread of acute respiratory diseases.
