The incident occurred in the morning on the toll road in Incarville in the Eure region in northern France.

A police source said several people arriving in two cars rammed a police minibus and fled. One of them was injured. It is not yet known how many attackers there were.

“Everything is being done to find the perpetrators of this crime. We will be uncompromising,” said President Emmanuel Macron.

Justice Minister Eric Dupont-Moretti confirmed the attack on the prison convoy and said he was immediately heading to his ministry's crisis cell.

“I froze in horror at the real massacre that took place on the toll part of Incarville. “I hope with all my heart that the team of killers who carried out this bloody attack will be quickly apprehended,” said the chairman of the Ayr region council, Alexander Russert.

The GIGN special police unit has been dispatched to apprehend the suspects. Traffic was stopped on the A154 motorway where the incident occurred.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin ordered the activation of the French Epervier plan, a special operation launched by the gendarmerie in such situations.

“Every means is being used to find these criminals. On my instructions, several hundred police officers and gendarmes were mobilized,” he said.

We add that a 30-year-old prisoner was found guilty last week and sentenced to 18 months in prison for robbery in 2019. He also faces murder charges that occurred in 2022 related to drug trafficking.

A source close to the case spoke to AFP and identified the prisoner as Mohamed A., born in 1994.
