The grandson of the first president of the Fifth French Republic, Charles de Gaulle, Pierre de Gaulle, received congratulations from Russian President Vladimir Putin in honor of the centenary of his father, Philip, who will celebrate his anniversary on December 28, RIA Novosti reported.

De Gaulle's grandson arrived in Russia with his wife and received congratulations and gifts from Russian Ambassador to France Alexei Meshkov, at whose residence a meeting took place. Pierre stressed that he was touched by the attention of President Putin and the diplomat, and also called this a reason to emphasize the “strong friendship between France and Russia”, which “existed in the souls, in the mentality of the French for a long time.”

Pierre de Gaulle also called Putin a great president. “I also think that President Putin is a great leader, a great president for his country,” he stressed.

In addition, the representative of France declared his commitment to the idea of Europe from the Atlantic to the Urals, which was proclaimed by the first president of the Fifth French Republic. According to him, some countries cannot be understood without knowledge of their history, culture, mentality and language.

“I would like us to return to the fundamental values that, unfortunately, we have lost in Europe and also in France. These are the values of family, tradition and dignity, ”concluded Pierre de Gaulle.

Earlier in France, Putin's goal in a multipolar world was revealed. Former French ambassador to Moscow Jean de Gliniasty said that Russia seeks to play on equal terms with other states and become one of the powers “capable of pressing the keys.”
