Against the background of the spread of the omicron strain of coronavirus in France and the United States, they recorded a record increase in cases per day since the beginning of the pandemic. It is reported by BBC News.
More than 440,000 new cases of COVID-19 infection were registered in the country per day, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. At the same time, it is noted that the announced figures may be overestimated due to delays and confusion with reports during the Christmas period.
At the same time, France reported 179,807 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours. The country's health minister, Olivier Veran, warned that by the beginning of January, the increase in infections could reach 250 thousand new cases daily. Record rates of infection were also reported in Italy, Britain, Portugal and Greece.
Earlier it was reported that scientists from the Republic of South Africa (South Africa) revealed that those who had recovered from the omicron strain of coronavirus had a fourfold increased immunity to the delta. “There is every reason to believe that the omicron strain will strengthen human immunity in relation to the delta variant and reduce its ability to re-infect humans,” the experts concluded.
