Painting by Claude Monet “Spring” in the Lyon Museum was doused with soup by two environmental activists from the Riposte Alimentaire movement.
This is reported by the BFMTV channel.
According to city authorities, both activists were arrested and brought to court.
“There is no justification for attacking a work of art that is part of the heritage of the French people,” the prefecture said in a statement.
Activists chanted: “This spring will be the only one we have left if we don't react. What will our future artists paint? “.
“What will we dream about if there is no more spring?” – they added.
However, this is not the first time. Earlier in Paris, at the Louvre Museum, two environmental activists of the Riposte Alimentaire movement poured soup on Leonardo da Vinci's painting “La Gioconda”, known as the “Mona Lisa”. In May 2022, an unknown visitor to the Louvre threw a piece of cake at a painting. Then the masterpiece was not damaged either.
