Former Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb criticized the Russian ice hockey team for playing in the USSR uniform in the Channel One Cup match against Finland. The post is available on the page of the ex-head of government on Twitter.

“I am surprised and disappointed that Russia was allowed to play in CCCP uniform. This combination of letters symbolizes a regime that killed millions of innocent people, ”wrote Stubb. He called this gesture offensive and not related to sports or anything else.

According to Stubb, Finland’s victory did not really matter. “It is much more important that the countries of the hockey family were brutally annexed with these letters,” the official said.

On December 19, the Russian national team lost to the national team of Finland and lost the Channel One Cup. As in the victorious matches against Canada, Sweden and the Czech Republic, Russian hockey players took to the ice in the form of the USSR. This is due to the fact that the Russian Ice Hockey Federation celebrates its 75th anniversary. In December 1946, the first matches of the national championship took place in the USSR.
