SIMFEROPOL, July 14. / TASS /. Rospotrebnadzor records the prevalence of the delta strain of coronavirus in Crimea, which has caused the epidemiological threshold for acute respiratory viral infections to be exceeded for the first time in 20 years. This was announced on Wednesday at a meeting of the regional operational headquarters by the chief state sanitary doctor for Crimea and Sevastopol Natalya Penkovskaya.
“Since the 24th week of this year, for the first time in the last 20 years, the level of the epidemic threshold for seasonal incidence of acute respiratory infections in July exceeded the epidemic thresholds. This is clearly associated with the peculiarities of the circulation of the existing strain on the territory of the peninsula and the city of Sevastopol. Based on the sequencing results for the last week, it was established that Crimea and Sevastopol were among those regions where the circulating virus of the Indian strain “delta” is dominant, Penkovskaya said.
The spread of coronavirus in Crimea has doubled in a month. “In the last week alone, the number of cases is almost the monthly number of cases reported in April 2021, and half of the cases in October, when we began to mark the previous rise in [incidence] of new coronavirus infection. Compared to the previous week, the incidence rate has increased by 12% and in four weeks, that is, in a month, the incidence rate has doubled, “said the head of the Rospotrebnadzor department.
Penkovskaya noted that at the same time, the occupancy rate of beds is growing in medical institutions that provide care to patients with coronavirus. According to the Minister of Health of Crimea, Alexander Ostapenko, there are now 3,179 beds in 31 medical organizations on the peninsula. Last week, the authorities deployed 169 beds in the Bakhchisarai central regional hospital.
The head of the Rospotrebnadzor department noted that the situation with the spread of coronavirus continues to remain unstable, and a trend towards a significant increase in the number of cases is recorded. Speaking about the characteristics of the delta strain, Penkovskaya noted that this mutation of the virus begins with the manifestation of ARVI, has a shorter incubation period, which contributes to a more rapid deterioration of the patient's condition. “Those admitted to the hospital very quickly become“ heavy. ”If with the“ Wuhan ”strain, we talked about a 14-day incubation period, today the incubation period is reduced to five to six days,” the medical doctor said.
On June 22, due to an increase in the incidence of diseases in Crimea, restrictions were again tightened: the night catering was banned, in addition to takeout and delivery services, and entertainment. At the same time, in Simferopol and Simferopol region, Yalta and Alushta, where at that time the situation was the most difficult, additional measures were introduced – a ban on the work of discos, karaoke clubs, hookah bars, night clubs; theaters and cinemas cannot fill the halls more than half. On July 13, the authorities decided to extend to a number of municipalities additional restrictions introduced earlier due to the complicated situation with coronavirus in some regions and cities of Crimea.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, since the beginning of the pandemic in Crimea, more than 50 thousand cases have been identified, about 45 thousand people have recovered, more than 1.5 thousand have died. At the same time, the situation in Crimea is now about the same as in the middle of winter, when the most difficult situation with coronavirus in the region.
