In Chukotka, an orphaned polar bear learned to get its own food
A one-year-old polar bear cub, which was seen near the village of Vankarem in Chukotka, is adapting to an independent life, employees of the Russian branch of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) reported in the official VKontakte group.
As noted by experts, the polar bear cub is lucky, unlike other little brothers left without a mother, he is in the place where there is food typical for polar bears – the remains of walruses.
“This can potentially help him not only to survive now, but also to grow up and become an adult independent bear (such a case was in Ryrkarpie),” the fund said.
WWF-Russia specialists discovered the orphan bear on October 3, for the first time near the village of Vankarem it was noticed at the end of September. Environmentalists examined the surroundings and found that there was only one cub, without a mother. Experts suggested that the bear's mother died or was killed by poachers. In search of food, the animal came out to people, but now it is important not to give it to feed and give it the opportunity to learn to live independently in nature. This is being watched by experts from WWF, Rosprirodnadzor, and a bear patrol – local volunteers.
Earlier it was reported that a polar bear cub went to the residents of the northernmost Russian village of Dikson in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
