In China, mocked Trump infected with coronavirus

Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of the Global Times in China, mocked American President Donald Trump and his wife Melania, who had contracted the coronavirus. He criticized the US leader on his Twitter.

According to the journalist, the illness of the American leader and the difficult situation with the coronavirus in the United States may ultimately have a negative effect on the role of Trump himself and Washington in general in the world. In addition, he believes, these circumstances may affect the outcome of the presidential elections.

“President Trump and the first lady paid for their games and attempts to play down the danger of COVID-19,” Hu Xijin said.

The journalist is referring to how Trump has repeatedly called COVID-19 the “Chinese virus” or “Wuhan virus”, which has outraged many civil liberties groups. They argued that such language could cause outbreaks of racism and violence against Asian Americans.

Trump revealed that he contracted the coronavirus on October 2 on his Twitter. He isolated himself after one of his closest advisers, Hope Hicks, was diagnosed with the coronavirus.

Trump has already refused to transfer his powers to US Vice President Mike Pence, doctors believe that he will cope with the duties.
