In China, Canadian sentenced to 11 years in prison and deportation for espionage
The People's Court of the middle level of the Chinese province of Liaoning found Canadian citizen Michael Spavor guilty of espionage and illegal transfer of state secrets, RIA Novosti reports.
He was sentenced to 11 years in prison, confiscation of personal property in the amount of 7.7 thousand dollars and deportation.
Information about when Spavor will be deported from the country has not been specified.
Recall that the trial of Michael Spavor and his compatriot Michael Kovrig, who were detained in China on espionage charges, began in March this year. Until now, there have been no reports of a sentence to Kovrig.
Earlier it was reported that the court in China did not commute the sentence of the Canadian Robert Lloyd Schellenberg, who was sentenced to death for drug trafficking.
