The world will surely face a new virus in the future, said the head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Gao Fu at the international forum for science and technology in society. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
According to him, today the world is faced not only with a pandemic of coronavirus infection, but also with “infodemia, when relevant information and misinformation are intertwined.”
The scientist noted that in the future the world will surely face the so-called “X virus”, the characteristics of which are currently unknown to anyone. It can occur anywhere and anytime.
Way to fight
Gao Fu, during his speech at an international forum, proposed the principle of interaction in order to prepare measures to counter the new virus.
From the above principles, the specialist highlighted the exchange of information. According to him, it was the open exchange of information from China that allowed scientists around the world to start developing vaccines against coronavirus infection in a short time.
WHO forecasts
The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus predicted the emergence of a new deadly virus to the world. The expert noted that humanity is not the last time faced with a global epidemic.
The head of WHO recalled that the main driver of pandemics is the lack of international solidarity and the desire of countries to share resources and technologies. According to him, “if you follow the old road, you will come to the same result – to a world that is not ready, not safe and not just.”
Deadly new virus
Earlier in China, an outbreak of a new type of SFTS virus, which is transmitted through ticks, was recorded. At least seven people have already died from him. At the same time, experts believe that if all precautions are followed, there is no reason for panic.
SFTS was first discovered back in 2009 in China. The symptoms of the virus are thrombocytopenia, leukocytopenia, lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, vomiting, diarrhea. In addition, there are diagnostics for determining this disease, which allow it to be detected using PCR and ELISA tests.
The reason for the appearance of viruses
An international team of scientists has reported that the exploitation of wild animals is affecting the emergence of pandemics. They linked the destruction of wildlife by humans with the emergence and spread of new infectious diseases. The study found that viruses primarily attack animals, but can often mutate and adapt to life in the human body.
