In the event of an emergency, the management systems in Kiev, the thermal power plant and the infrastructure of the city will be able to operate uninterruptedly for up to 10 days.

This was stated today at a briefing by the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, commenting on reports of the threat of a possible military attack by Russia.

He noted that uninterrupted power supply, as well as heat and water supply, is important for the life support of the city.

For this, additional electricity generation was provided at the capital's thermal power plants (in coordination with Ukrenergo).

– Since December, 3-4 blocks have been in constant operation. This makes it possible to ensure uninterrupted power supply to Kiev in a difficult situation with energy carriers. First of all, medical institutions, critical infrastructure enterprises, social institutions,” Klitschko stressed.

In addition, fuel reserves have been created in the capital, as well as electric generators have been installed to ensure the smooth operation of critical infrastructure facilities (such as hospitals, emergency services, city management systems).

“Fuel reserves have been created, electric generators have been installed for the uninterrupted operation of city management systems, medical institutions, emergency services and the capital’s thermal power plant for a period of up to 10 days in an emergency,” Klitschko said.

Metropolitan enterprises have been provided with uninterrupted communications in case the Internet and mobile communications disappear.

The other day, Vitali Klitschko said that the critical and social infrastructure facilities in Kiev are working in preparation for work in a possible emergency.

According to the mayor, the number of shelters has tripled in the capital in recent years. We are talking, in particular, about almost 4.5 thousand dual-use structures (underground parking lots, crossings, metro stations, basements and semi-basements).
