Monument to Anatoly Tarasov in Moscow
Former general manager of the Vancouver Canucks NHL club Brian Burke, in his book, spoke about the Soviet doctors who refused to treat coach Anatoly Tarasov. An excerpt from the book leads Sports.ru
Burke recalled that the NHL wanted to improve relations with the Soviet hockey leadership, and in 1978 they invited Tarasov to the Vancouver base. According to him, the coach was in disgrace at home, aged and very sick. The functionary added that Tarasov decided on this trip due to the fact that the club's management offered to pay for an operation on the hip joint, which Soviet doctors refused to do.
