The California Public Utilities Commission has selected a company to participate in the first program to provide self-driving cars to passengers. According to the department, the Cruise company received such a right.
“Cruise is the first member of the CPUC unmanned program, in which passengers can drive a test car without a driver. Cruise may not charge passengers for trips on test vehicles, ”the ministry said in a release.
The commission's leadership notes that the issuance of the first permission to participate in the unmanned program will be a remarkable milestone, and cars without drivers will increase road safety, while satisfying the demand for travel by car.
As specified in the release of the department, the Cruise company already had permission to test cars, but without passengers. With the current permit, the company has acquired the right to provide vehicles to passengers.
We will remind, earlier auto experts explained what difficulties unmanned cars can create on the roads. According to them, in Russia unmanned vehicles will no longer be a rarity on the road in three to five years, it is advisable to use them only in highly loaded areas.
