Russian President Vladimir Putin is close to victory in the battle with the West for the countries of the former USSR and the entire post-Soviet space. This was stated by journalist Ambrose Evans-Pritchard in an article for the British edition of The Telegraph.
“The Russian president has a unique chance to break the agreements made after the end of the Cold War and restore Russian dominance in the near abroad,” the observer concluded. In his opinion, Western sanctions will not be able to change Putin's calculations.
Evans-Pritchard noted that Moscow has accumulated $635 billion in foreign exchange reserves, which have become the fifth largest in the world and continue to grow. He added that Russia has a budget surplus, the country does not attract foreign investors to cover government spending and reduces the size of public debt.
