In the Brazilian state of São Paulo, two babies were mistakenly vaccinated against COVID-19, developed by the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer in collaboration with the German corporation BioNTech

on Sunday, December 5, reported by CNN Brazil.

It is noted that the incident took place on Wednesday, December 1, when parents brought their children two and four months old to the UBS Nova Sorocaba first-aid post for vaccination with a five-component vaccine against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis C and hemophilus influenza b.

Shortly after the injection, the newborns developed a number of severe symptoms and were immediately hospitalized. The babies are now under medical supervision at the local hospital in Gpachi.

According to local authorities, the nurse who mixed up the drugs has been suspended from her duties pending the completion of the investigation.

One of the victims is Liz Victoria, two months old. The girl's mother, Ana Claudia Mugnos Riello, said that a few hours after the vaccination, the child had a high fever and started vomiting.

The next day, the woman went to the emergency room at another medical center, where she was told that it was natural reaction to the vaccine. However, Riello was later invited to a meeting with the doctor, nurses and staff of UBS Nova Sorocaba, during which she was informed of the error.

Little Liz Victoria has been under the supervision of doctors for seven days, her condition is assessed as satisfactory. Every 48 hours, the girl has an ultrasound of the head and an electrocardiogram.

“I know everyone makes mistakes, but such a mistake is unacceptable. I do not want to harm the nurse, but I want this to serve as a warning to other healthcare professionals and other mothers, “said the mother of the little patient.

The other victim was four-month-old Miguel, who was taken to UBS Nova Sorocaba by his mother, Cathillin Fernanda, on December 1, according to the Vaccination Calendar. It is known that the boy was served by the same nurse.

According to Katillin, after the vaccination, both of Miguel's legs were swollen. The child could not move and was crying. In addition, the boy had a high fever, he “refused milk, began vomiting.”

The next day, the country's Minister of Health Vinicius Rodriguez contacted the woman, after which Miguel was hospitalized. The mother added that the boy had difficulty breathing upon arrival at the hospital. Now the child is under medical supervision and feels well.
