Prince Philip is buried on Saturday. Out of respect and to avoid an overlap, Formula 1 in Imola (It) is postponing qualifying.
The second Formula 1 Grand Prix of the year will take place in Imola (It) on Sunday – as usual at 3 p.m. However, there will be a change in qualifying. As the racing series announced, the starting grid will be determined on Saturday at 2 p.m. instead of 3 p.m. Reason: The funeral for Prince Philip.
The “Duke of Edinburgh” died on April 9th at the age of 99. Queen Elizabeth II's husband will be buried on Saturday. In order to avoid an overlap, the PS premier class moved its program an hour ahead, and announced a minute's silence.
In addition, both training units will be moved forward by half an hour on Friday. The first session starts at 11.00 a.m., the second session at 2.30 p.m.
World champion Lewis Hamilton won the season opener in Bahrain. Second was rival Max Verstappen in the Red Bull.
