Too frequent revaccination can lead to the opposite effect and cause immunological paralysis. The president of the Russian Scientific Society of Immunologists, scientific director of the Institute of Immunology and Physiology of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Valery Chereshnev warned about this, specifying that it is recommended to revaccinate at least six months after the last vaccination.
The specialist explained that revaccination is necessary in order for the immune memory cells, “which carry information for division, for the accumulation of cytotoxic lymphocytes – the main defenders, to be stimulated all the time,” and also to be ready to give a faster response.
“[Revaccination] in six months is the minimum period, not more often. What are the risks of frequent vaccinations? This was also established by the classics … – immunological paralysis develops, ”TASS quotes the expert.
Chereshnev said that it is not worth “overdoing it” with revaccination. According to him, this depletes the immune system, and against the background of hyperimmunization, the opposite effect will occur, when secondary immunodeficiency can develop.
Recall that the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation recommends re-vaccination against coronavirus infection six months after primary vaccination. It is this period, according to the expert, that is optimal for the start of re-vaccination. Earlier, the immunologist explained to the Russians who would need early revaccination against coronavirus.
