Immunologist, Ph.D. Nikolay Kryuchkov, in an interview with URA.RU, predicted an increase in the incidence of coronavirus after the New Year holidays. As an example, he cited the increase in the number of infections in the past year.
“Now it seems to us that the New Year, a Christmas miracle and all that, but I would not relax. In Moscow and St. Petersburg, almost all cases will be Omicron. New Year's Eve will hold back this story. As soon as they are over, we will definitely see a strong and fast take-off in terms of morbidity, ”the specialist emphasized.
According to Kryuchkov, this will also affect hospitalizations, so he did not see any reasons for optimism and urged to prepare for such an outcome. The immunologist recommended strengthening anti-epidemic measures and monitoring the situation, as well as increasing the rate of effective vaccination.
A similar opinion was expressed by his colleague Tamara Frolova. She noted that the increase in the incidence will occur due to mass events and stressed that it is necessary to limit the number and dissociate visitors, as well as strengthen control to comply with all sanitary standards.
Earlier on December 31, the former Minister of Health, head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) Veronika Skvortsova spoke about the timing of the end of the coronavirus pandemic. According to her, now it is difficult for specialists to give an unambiguous assessment of the omicron strain. However, they do not exclude that he “will make his own contribution, including in the end of the pandemic.”
