On the eve of the vote, the US President called for support for the bill to allocate additional funding for Ukraine.
American President Joe Biden once again appealed to the US Congress with a call to vote for a bill to allocate additional funding for national security needs, in particular for Ukraine, Israel and the southern border of the United States.
This was discussed in Biden's February 6 White House address.
He stated that the bill resolves the issue of urgent assistance to Ukraine.
“I’m now wearing a Ukrainian tie (yellow-blue – ed.) and a Ukrainian brooch-pin. Ukrainians are now in a difficult situation, defending themselves from the Russian onslaught. Time passes. Every week, every month that passes without new help means that “Ukraine has fewer artillery shells, fewer air defense systems, fewer tools to defend itself against this Russian pressure. That's what Putin wants,” Biden said.
He also noted that he had assembled a coalition of 50 countries supporting Ukraine. Biden spoke by phone with the leaders of these countries.
“We united NATO and even enlarged the Alliance. We cannot go now. This is exactly what Putin is counting on. Approving this bill means confronting Putin,” Biden emphasized.
He added that to oppose this document means playing into the hands of the Kremlin leader.
“If we don't stop Putin's appetite for power and control over Ukraine, he will not limit himself to just Ukraine. And the costs for the United States, our partners and allies will increase. Those in Congress think they can oppose help from Ukraine and will not be held accountable, history is watching you,” Biden emphasized.
According to the American President, support for Ukraine at such an extremely important time will never be forgotten.
He also added that the document also contains assistance to Israel. This is about protecting the country and providing humanitarian support to the Palestinians.
Recall that the Speaker of the House of Representatives named a bill to allocate additional funding for national security needs, in particular for Ukraine, Israel and the southern border of the United States, “dead”. Note that Republican senators are beginning to desert en masse ahead of the vote, which will take place on February 7.
