If Ukraine loses the war: the Hungarian minister invites the EU to develop another strategy

In Hungary they started talking about the need for a “strategic debate” on Ukraine’s accession to the EU and financial assistance to our country.

Hungary's Minister for EU Affairs, Janos Boka, said that the EU based its course of action on Ukraine on the basis of its likely victory in countering Russian aggression, but did not provide an alternative strategy in case this does not happen.

His statement before a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels was quoted by Daily News Hungary.

According to the Hungarian minister, the EU has drawn up a course of action, taking into account that Ukraine will win the war, which will entail political reshuffles in Moscow, but if this does not happen, then “the EU must develop an alternative strategy with the aim of creating a functional security system in Europe.”

Janos Boka also said that EU policy towards Ukraine should be shaped by “considering options and holding strategic debates.”

“Without strategic debate, we are unable to make decisions on further steps for Ukraine’s accession to the EU or on the revision of the multi-year financial program,” he said.

The Hungarian minister believes that this debate should show the results that the EU strategy to support Ukraine has already produced.

Let us recall that earlier the Hungarian government called on the EU not to enter into membership negotiations with Ukraine due to Kiev’s failure to fulfill the conditions for accession.
