Iceland suspends use of AstraZeneca vaccine
Iceland has temporarily suspended vaccination against COVID-19 with a drug from the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca, TASS reports, citing the local directorate of health.
This decision was made after the emergence of information about the formation of blood clots in vaccinated citizens, as well as a fatal case in Denmark, which could be associated with vaccination.
The department clarified that there were no such incidents in Iceland itself.
As noted by the agency, earlier vaccination with this drug was suspended in Denmark, Italy and Norway, however, it was reported that it is not yet possible to make an unambiguous conclusion about the existence of a connection between the vaccine and the formation of blood clots.
It also became known that in Austria, after the death of a 49-year-old woman, they refused to use one of the lots of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The patient died as a result of severe bleeding disorders. Another woman who was vaccinated developed pulmonary embolism.
