Grossi's decision comes amid reports of US airstrikes on three nuclear sites in Iran – Fordow, Natan and Isfahan.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi called an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Directors due to the situation in the Middle East.
Grossi wrote about this on the social network X.
“Given the extraordinary situation in Iran, I am convening an emergency meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors on June 23,” he said in a statement.
At the same time, the IAEA reported that after the US attacks on three nuclear facilities in Iran, no increase in radiation levels was recorded outside the facilities.
Recall that the US launched a massive airstrike on key Iranian nuclear facilities. US President Donald Trump announced the destruction of Iran's entire nuclear potential.
“Iran must make peace now. If they do not, future attacks will be much bigger and much easier to carry out. Either peace comes, or Iran will suffer a tragedy far worse than we have seen in the last eight days,” the American president said.
However, the Iranian Foreign Ministry only reported damage to facilities.
Tehran also condemned the US actions as a strike “on peaceful nuclear facilities.” Iran also stressed that the Islamic Republic is determined to defend its territory.
The Trump administration is bracing for possible retaliation from Iran within the next 48 hours, according to two defense officials and a senior White House official. It is unclear whether the retaliation would be directed at foreign or domestic targets, or both.
Meanwhile, Yemen has officially declared its entry into the war in the Middle East.
