In recent years, solotravel have become very popular for a number of reasons – from people's desire to sort out their thoughts and feelings to the desire to plan their route based solely on their wishes. However, one of the most serious obstacles for solo tourists is the issue of safety.
19-year-old American tourist Eve Kovacs, who made her first solo trip to Europe shortly after turning 18, said that she felt least safe in Albania. The girl said this in a comment to MailOnline Travel.
“Men! I felt like prey. Even the men sitting with their wives would break their necks to look at you while you were walking down the street,” the girl complained.
Eve, who shares her adventures on Instagram under the nickname @outdoor.eve with an audience of more than 156 thousand subscribers, went on a three-month solo trip across 11 European countries with only a backpack, wanting to prove to herself that “the world is not only huge, but also kind.” .
“I was right,” she added. Although sometimes Albania made her feel like a “target”.
“While I was there, someone touched my hair in the supermarket and several people took pictures of me. I think that since I'm blonde and short with blue eyes, I could be a target,” Ive noted.
The girl was also a little disappointed in Greece… because of the bed bugs that literally swarmed her hostel: “I solved the problem, slept in a hammock and left the next morning.”
But the traveler felt safest in Norway.
“Norway surprised me with how safe I felt. I took the locks off my bag on the second day. There was no such friendly welcome as in Italy, but there was just a general feeling of safety and security,” said girl.
By the way, Eve named Italy her favorite European country: “My favorite place in Europe is the Amalfi Coast in Italy! I found wonderful hospitality, surfing and farm work there.”
Having completed her travels around Europe, the young traveler says that each country taught her something. Now she gives safety tips to other travelers.
“My precautions are to take locks for bags, always keep an eye on your belongings and be attentive,” Ive summed up.
