Hungarians were not happy with a short Swedish video.
Hungary threatens to stop expansion NATO during the war. The reason was a 10-minute Swedish video that she did not like.
Euobserver reports this.
What is known
As Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó noted, the video “certainly does not contribute to the fulfillment of your constantly rising demands.” It was referring to Sweden's request to Hungary to ratify its application to join NATO.
“The clip was “fairy information” that “democracy in Hungary has slipped in recent years,” Szijjártó added.
The “offensive” video was produced by the Swedish public educational broadcaster UR. There is nothing in it that is not widely recognized in Europe.
The European Commission has initiated sanctions against Hungary and withheld billions of euros due to the thuggish rule of Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The European Parliament said Hungary “is not a full-fledged democracy.” But on Thursday, half of Orbán's government suddenly became outraged over a short Swedish film.
“Shocking educational video approved by the Swedish government, attacking Hungary! How can we convince Hungarian parliamentarians to support Sweden's membership (in NATO – ed. ) when our democracy is constantly in doubt, insulting our voters?” said Prime Minister Balázs Orbán's chief political adviser.
According to senior ruling party lawmaker Gergely Gulyas, if the film is being shown in public schools, then Sweden is doing everything to prevent Hungary from ratifying its entry into NATO.
The sudden uproar came after Hungary said it was ready proceed with ratification of the treaty at the NATO summit in July. Opposition Democratic Coalition lawmaker Agnes Vadai said the apparent reversal makes the country look ridiculous on the international stage.
“What Szijjártó is doing is not shameful, but humiliating for Hungary,” she told EUobserver.< /p>
Sweden is trying to join NATO through Finland in order to protect itself from potential Russian aggression after Russia's invasion of Ukraine last year.
Note that Sweden's entry into NATO has not yet been ratified only Hungary and Turkey.
It was previously said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed to unblock Sweden's entry into the Alliance.
