Ukraine and Hungary signed an agreement on guaranteed capacities for daily transportation of up to 8 million cubic meters. m of gas.

This was announced by the General Director of the Ukrainian GTS Operator Serhiy Makogon. According to him, for the first time since 2014, Ukraine has been increasing its guaranteed capacity for importing gas from Europe.

– This is a step to strengthen our security and new opportunities for traders from Ukraine and Europe. The agreement will make it possible to physically transport up to 8 million cubic meters per day. meters of gas from Hungary to Ukraine. This, for example, is like the daily volume of gas consumption in Kiev. Together with the available daily capacity from Slovakia (27 million cubic meters), the total volume of guaranteed capacity for gas imports to Ukraine will increase to 35 million cubic meters. m per day, – Sergey Makogon explained.

According to the General Director of the GTS Operator, the agreement has been signed for three months. During this time, they plan to coordinate and adjust all technical and operational processes in order to continue its operation from April 2022 and further increase the guaranteed capacity in this area.

Sergey Makogon added that from December 31 it will be possible to book capacity to import gas from Hungary through the RBP platform at daily auctions. The first monthly auction will take place on January 17.

On September 27, Hungary signed a long-term agreement with the Russian Gazprom to transport gas bypassing Ukraine. The gas agreement is designed for 15 years, it entered into force on October 1.

Previously, Hungary also imported Russian gas, but it did so through Ukraine. It was Russia that insisted that Ukraine be excluded from the gas transit scheme.
