Hungary declares energy emergency

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Wednesday, July 13, convened an extraordinary meeting of the government to discuss the “European energy crisis”, as a result of which a decision was made to declare an emergency.

The corresponding decision was announced by the head of the administration of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Gergely Guiyash. According to him, the country's gas storage facilities are less than half full – 44%, which is enough for a quarter of the year.

As explained by the Hungarian government, The purpose of the introduction of the emergency is “to prepare for an energy crisis, strengthen energy security and protect against a decrease in utilities against the backdrop of further rising energy prices.” To this end, the country's government has adopted a seven-point plan, which will come into force from August.
