The Hungarian Supreme Court sentenced Bela Kovacs to five years of probation.
Former MEP Bela Kovacs was sentenced to five years suspended sentence by a Hungarian court in a case of spying for Russia.
This is reported by EUObserver.
Kovacs was convicted of budget fraud and falsification of documents. The indictment states that between 2012 and 2014, Kovacs' task was to create groups in the EU to strengthen Russian interests and weaken EU policy.
Kovacs currently resides in Moscow. An international warrant may be issued for his arrest.
According to sources, Kovacs has been an MEP from the far-right nationalist Jobbik party since 2010, according to sources. Political scientists consider its members to be one of Putin's main allies in the EU.
“Investigators claim that Kovacs had too much contact with Russian diplomats and visited Moscow almost every month,” EUObserver added.
Kovach himself denied his connection with any special services.
Recall that Jens Stoltenberg said that Russia would not be able to win in a nuclear conflict.
