Huge rush to supermarkets on the first day of lockdown

by alex

Because of the holidays, all shops are closed for three days in a row. There was a great crowd at the few addresses in Vienna where you could shop.

On December 26th, Stephen's Day and the first day of the new lockdown, two major events coincide with the same date. All over Austria, essential shops such as drug stores and supermarkets are closed due to the holiday. But at a few addresses in Vienna you can also go shopping on Stefanitag.

These are the new rules for tough lockdown!

This includes the Interspar at the main train station in Vienna-Favoriten. Here a meter-long line formed in front of the shop – apparently, many Viennese had not had the opportunity to make provisions for the three holidays in a row.

“It's actually quite ok, the queue is moving faster than you think. The mood is a bit excited and there are a few pioneers, but the Spar employees keep track of the number of people in the store and keep things tidy”, reports a ” Today ” reader reporter.
