Meizu will use Huawei branded services in its smartphones. It is reported by the Chinese edition of ITHome.
A source in the corporation under US sanctions said that Meizu decided to install programs of the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) family on its phones. Currently, Meizu devices use services from Google, but the AppGallery app store and several other programs may appear in future devices.
The reasons for choosing Meizu HMS as basic services were not disclosed. There is also no information that pre-installed programs from Google will disappear from the manufacturer's smartphones. The source estimates the likelihood of the appearance of the first Meizu phones with Huawei Mobile Services in the future as high.
Huawei Mobile Services is a set of applications and services for developers and users based on HMS Core. Also, this core opens access to the cloud computing service for program creators.
The operating system HarmonyOS 2.0, which includes HMS, was previously called a “replica” of Android. Huawei was forced to launch its own OS and services after the company was added to the US sanctions list in May 2019. In particular, restrictions were imposed on the manufacturer to use services from the American company Google in their smartphones.
