Huawei leads the 5G smartphone market

Huawei ranked first in the world for 5G-enabled active devices. This is reported in a study by the agency Finbold.

At the end of the fourth quarter of 2020, Huawei led the 5G device market. The corporation's share was 26.9 percent. Samsung took the second position with a share of 25.1 percent. Closes the top 3 Apple, whose smartphones accounted for a share of 19.5 percent. Below are the Chinese phone manufacturers – Vivo and Honor. Their share was 11.8 and 6.9 percent, respectively.

Also, experts separately compared Huawei and Samsung. According to the results of four months of the last half of the year, the Korean company was noticeably ahead of the competitor – for example, in November 2020, 44.9 and 8.6 percent of smartphones of Korean and Chinese corporations were registered in fifth-generation networks, respectively. In December, Samsung's share fell sharply to 25.1 percent. At the same time, the share of Huawei increased to 26.9 percent.

In addition to the noticeable growth and leadership of Huawei, analysts noted how quickly Apple broke into the 5G market. As of September 2020, the corporation had not released a single smartphone with support for fifth generation communications, but by the end of the year, the American IT giant had conquered almost a fifth of the global market. This is attributed to the success of the iPhone 12 series smartphones on sale.

The report also says that Huawei's success can be attributed to leadership in the huge Chinese market, where the company is also supported by the state. Despite being included in the US sanctions list, Huawei has orders at home and is actively developing 5G infrastructure. In addition, Huawei emerged from the pandemic crisis faster than competitors: this is due to the fact that China took control of the crisis situation earlier than other countries.

Despite the success of the Chinese corporation, analysts predict a possible decline in Huawei due to a shortage in the semiconductor market. This could significantly reduce the number of fifth-generation smartphones produced.

Earlier, analysts from the M.Video-Eldorado group named the most popular 5G smartphones in Russia. At the end of 2020, the rating was topped by the iPhone 12. The top 3 also included the iPhone 12 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. The share of phones with 5G support was 2.5 percent in unit sales and 8 percent in money.
