Huawei caught copying Android

The new operating system from Huawei is based on Android. This is reported by XDA Developers.

The portal's journalists drew attention to the video of a blogger from China who created the Hello World application to check the operating system of smartphones. After running the program on a device running HarmonyOS 2.0 beta, the operating system gave an error about a compatibility issue. A user noticed that a similar error appears on Android OS, in particular Kitkat 4.4.4, released back in 2013. The specialist concluded that Huawei's operating system is based on an old version of Android.

The authors of XDA Developers confirmed the blogger's guesses by compiling and installing a similar verification application on the virtual version of HarmonyOS. It turned out that the OS caught in copying gives an error similar to the outdated versions of Android. “The error message is exactly the same except that they replaced the word Android with HarmonyOS,” the journalists noted.

The message says that HarmonyOS has many components, so it's difficult to draw an unambiguous conclusion. However, experts have almost no doubts about copying some of the OS functions from Google. Reporters contacted Huawei, but received no prompt response.

Earlier, Huawei presented the first beta version of its own operating system. HarmonyOS is now available to smartphone software developers. From December 16, developers can test HarmonyOS 2.0 on the company's flagship smartphones and tablets.
