Huawei spoke about the positive effect of the US sanctions. It is reported by the ITHome edition with reference to the statements of the company's top managers.
Consumer software president Wang Chenglu said the US sanctions against Huawei have their advantages. The de facto disconnection of the Chinese brand from Android did more good than harm, he said. “It is only a matter of time before the proprietary shell of EMUI 11 will be fully updated to HarmonyOS,” Chenlu said, announcing the appearance of Huawei's OS on the brand's smartphones. Wang Chenglu clarified that Huawei still has a contract with Google, but the company intends to move forward.
Huawei top manager Wang Yanmin called the HarmonyOS ecosystem a product that has achieved impressive results in just a year. According to statistics, 1.8 million developers and 490 million active users are registered on the corporation's own platform. According to Yanming, HarmonyOS can already compete with ecosystems from Apple and Google.
Yanming also said that the corporate duopoly that has lasted for over a decade is not helping the industry. The top executive criticized the 30 percent commission that Apple and Google charge developers and hinted that there will be less commission in the Huawei ecosystem. “It's time to launch a fairer and more open platform,” Wang Yanming said.
At the end of his conversation with the press, a company spokesman noted that both Apple and Google depend on the Chinese market. He estimates that nearly 40 percent of corporate revenue comes from developers in China.
On September 10, Huawei held an event where it announced a new version of the HarmonyOS operating system. During 2020 and 2021, the OS will be tested by developers, in December 2021 the first beta version of the operating system for smartphones will appear. HarmonyOS 2.0 will also be available for other devices including smartwatches, TVs and car computers.
