Как победить Трампу Путина на мирных переговорах: сценарий от Foreign Policy

The US President-elect has made it clear that he is looking forward to a ceasefire.

Russia's record losses in Ukraine may indicate that Russian President Vladimir Putin hopes to begin negotiations as soon as Donald Trump officially becomes president USA.

This opinion was expressed by John Hardy, Deputy Director of Russian Programs at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, and Mark Montgomery from the Cyberspace Solarium Commission 2.0 to Foreign Policy.

“For the fairest and longest possible peace between Ukraine and Russia, it is necessary to put as much pressure on the Kremlin as possible. Because otherwise, Putin, feeling his strength, will make demands on Ukraine that will be close to capitulation – for example, it will be about not only annexing a significant part of Ukrainian territory, not only abandoning NATO, but also limiting the size of the Ukrainian army,” the expert believes.

As the author writes, the new White House administration should inspect the Pentagon warehouses to understand what else can be provided to Ukraine. For example, decide whether it is necessary to store expired ATACMS shells in the United States or whether it is better to give them to Ukraine. The same goes for JASSM missiles, which can travel longer distances than ATACMS.

“Of course, we need to put pressure on the Russian economy. Close the loopholes in sanctions, lower the upper permissible price of oil. The more difficult it is for Putin to keep his economy afloat and finance the war, the higher the chances of a fair peace agreement,” the author writes.

Earlier, analysts reported that the Russian information space continues to emphasize that Putin is not interested in a negotiated settlement of the war in Ukraine that would lead to anything less than the complete capitulation of Ukraine.

In November, Reuters reported, citing sources including, allegedly, five current and former Russian officials, that Putin was ready to discuss with Trump after he joined the the position of the president, the possibility of a ceasefire in Ukraine and, in particular, is ready to agree to a freeze of the war on the current front line, but does not intend to give up most of the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia, and also insists that Ukraine should not join NATO.
