How to prevent smartphone data theft: expert recommendations
The smartphone provides many information security control functions. If you understand its settings, you can protect yourself from data theft and fraudulent withdrawals of money from the account, Anna Mikhailova, business development manager of the Angara group of companies, told the Prime agency.
She noted that on the Android system, almost every application permission can be controlled. The expert advised to check which of them can send messages, since SMS can be used to access some confirmation codes, which can lead to serious consequences.
It is important to check which applications have access to the location and microphone, if you suspect they should be disabled, for example, when they are requested by a game that does not need permissions.
According to Mikhailova, it is necessary to pay attention to the “Special access” section with administrator rights, it should not contain unnecessary applications, only system and specialized ones.
“If there is no need to install applications not from the official store, it is better to prohibit the“ Install unknown applications ”function for all applications,” the expert noted.
Mikhailova also stated that the functions “Unlimited data access” and “Access to premium SMS-messages” in roaming can become a problem, so it is worth “tracing and disabling unnecessary permissions.”
In the iOS system, the specialist reminded, you can manage permissions in the “Privacy” section or individually in each application. In addition, at the provider level, you can enable “content blocking”, which will deprive the user of the opportunity to make paid calls, as well as block paid subscriptions.
Earlier, former US intelligence officer Edward Snowden said about the dangers of modern smartphones. According to him, global private companies must be deprived of access to personal data of users of the gadget. Otherwise, the level of security in the world will decline.
