How much does it cost to rent housing in the capital of Germany, Berlin, reports “RBK-Ukraine”.
According to the publication, after the start of a full-scale war, more than 64 thousand Ukrainian refugees found refuge in Berlin. Many of them have already refused social housing and rent apartments on their own.
The cost of rented housing is 135.6% higher than in Kiev.
What is different about the rental conditions in Kiev
The conditions differ from those to which Ukrainians renting housing are accustomed. Unlike most Ukrainian landlords, apartments in Berlin are mostly rented out empty, only the kitchen is furnished. Therefore, tenants in most cases have to buy furniture and then take it with them when they move out, which causes additional inconvenience.
When renting, most people sign a contract and leave a deposit for three months (in Ukraine, this is mainly payment for the first and last month of residence). The document specifies the amount of payment and the period during which the owner has no right to increase it.

The publication notes that the housing market in Berlin has become less accessible in recent years due to high demand and a limited number of housing stock.
What is “cold” and “hot” rent
“Cold” rent in Berlin does not include utilities, which the tenant pays separately. “Hot” rent covers the entire cost of utilities.
Prices for utilities
Berlin residents pay 309 euros (13.5 thousand UAH) for utilities in an 85 sq. m. apartment. Internet costs about 40 euros (1744 UAH).
