Hotels closed in February!

As of February 8, the government has announced “cautious” loosening of lockdowns, opening trade and schools. Tourism has to wait on.

“Even if it has already become apparent that tourism will not be part of the first steps towards opening up at the beginning of February: That is a huge hit again,” says ÖHV President Michaela Reitterer, describing the mood in the industry after the government announced the easing measures which tourism is left out again. “The psyche also plays an increasingly important role. We all urgently need a perspective, employers and employees,” says Reitterer, who would like more clarity.

“In the summer, the industry impressively demonstrated that hygiene and safety concepts can be implemented perfectly,” the ÖHV President continued. An appropriate legal framework must now be worked out quickly with all those involved, Reitterer appeals to the responsible ministries: “We are happy to contribute our expertise.” According to current ÖHV surveys, 70 percent of businesses are ready to reopen from March onwards, clear rules and controls can offer more security than uncontrolled parties in garages and party rooms.

The already proven hygiene concepts can easily be revised and adapted. The core of the opening are ongoing tests of all employees and access tests for guests at check-in. “Corresponding concepts are already on the table”, Reitterer is now calling for more speed in developing the relevant ordinances.
