The British Prime Minister said that the number of cases of COVID strain” Omicron & quot; “ doubles every two to three days. ''

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called on citizens to immediately receive additional vaccination against COVID-19.

He voiced the corresponding statement in Sunday, December 12, The Guardian reports.

The head of the British government warned the population not to underestimate the new Omicron coronavirus strain. According to him, the number of cases of this variant in the country “doubles every two to three days.”

“I am afraid that we are now faced with an emergency in our battle with the new option, Omicron, and we urgently need to strengthen our vaccine defense wall to protect our friends and loved ones,” Johnson told the British.

He noted that two doses of COVID-19 vaccine are not enough to provide the required level of protection.

“The good news is that our scientists are confident that with the help of a third, booster dose, we can restore our level of protection,” the British prime minister said and continued. “Don't make the mistake of thinking that Omicron will not harm you.” .

According to him, a new strain of COVID-19 can lead to a serious course of the disease. “We are already seeing a doubling of hospitalizations per week in South Africa. And right now in the UK we have patients with Omicron in hospitals,” he summed up.

Johnson assured that all citizens eligible for booster vaccinations (people over 18 who received a second dose at least three months ago) can be vaccinated on Monday. It is expected that everyone will be able to receive a booster dose by the end of the year.

Earlier it was reported that more than a thousand new cases of Omicron were recorded in the UK per day, which is almost double the previous daily maximum.

November 26, World Health Organization has qualified a new strain of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, dubbed Omicron, as a cause of concern. This variant was first discovered on November 9 in southern Africa.
